Over the Labor Day weekend, Lexi rapidly lost vision. She has both cataracts as well as retinal degeneration. The ophthalmologist confirmed yesterday that she has ~10% vision.
This is devastating news as Lexi was once so spunky and sassy, and now she seems depressed. I’m researching and learning as much as I can to make her as comfortable as possible.
We will get through this and Lexi will continue to have a fun life! I welcome any tips you have, product recommendations, and words of encouragement.

Hi there! Yes, you and Lexi will get through this. Try to be positive and remember dogs are very resilient! My little blind dog, April has been blind from birth, but honestly it’s barely noticeable and she does really great getting around and even goes in and out of the dog door and goes on walks with me every day. I adopted her 3 and 1/2 years ago. She was born with detached retinas. Unfortunately, this Thursday, we will be going in for removal of her right eye because she developed glaucoma and the drops do not seem to helping to relieve pressure. I’m nervous about it of course, but I just don’t want her in pain. She is blind anyway, so there’s no need to worry about sight in her case, but from everything I have read about dog’s going blind, even when they had sight before, they do extremely well! It’s us humans that cringe at the thought of it.
I just wanted to say, I think Lexi will be fine no matter what happens as far as sight loss. I wish you luck and guidance about any decisions made. You and Lexi will be fine!!
