Nessa started having trouble with her eyes after my daughter cut her with a pair of scissors. We took her to the vet and they kept her over night.
When we picked her up the next day her eyes were cloudy, swollen and shaky. She had tears running down her face. I immediately notified the assistant that her eyes were not like that when we brought her in. The vet came in and informed me that she had developed an infection in her eyes. They gave me eye drops and sent me home.
A week later her eyes were still shaking and still cloudy. I called the animal eye clinic here . They had me bring her in for an emergency visit. In a matter of a week my 13 month old cocker spaniel had gone from being able to see perfectly fine to developing glaucoma. We have been managing with drops and pain meds for the last 5 years. I know this sounds crazy but I have gotten to the point I know her eyes are hurting because mine start to hurt. So at this point I just want her out of pain.
I have asked my vet about removing her eyes. He said he could do it. My only fear is he told me that dogs can react and become aggressive after the surgery. She is such a gentle soul. I would hate for this to happen. Has anyone heard of this happening?
I’ve never heard of a dog becoming aggressive after eye removal surgery – mine certainly didn’t.
