My best buddy,Toby, Jack Russell terrier/shiba Inu/doxie mix has been my love for 12 yrs. His mom is still with me at age 16 and has cancer but still loves life.
Toby had an anal gland infection about a year ago. He was staring at the wall and looking down and not interested in playing ball (his ball was his glory in life).
I took him to the vet and they took care of the anal gland and said that his strange behavior was probably because of pain. They said he had cataracts but didn’t make an issue of it. I expected my buddy to regain his spunk but he just kept bumping into things and laying around alot. He went totally blind in about a month.
The first months were agony. I felt so bad for him! My buddy blind!! We cried alot! I bought him squeeky toys and gave him lots of stuffed kongs (he still loves playing with them). One day he just seemed to bounce back and started sniffing the whole place walking under and over and in between. I allowed what wasn’t dangerous for him. It is like he just decided I’m not going to let this get me down! He now barks again for lunch and goes for car rides and enjoys his life again. He loves being close even more!

I’m sorry this happened to you and Toby, but he’s lucky to have you and I’m sure he’s still your sweetest buddy.
