SARDS Research

Hello everyone, my name is Vanessa Parslow and I am an undergraduate pre-veterinary student. I am an undergraduate researcher at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. Our team is researching the underlying causes of SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) in canines.

We are hoping to find the cause of this disease in order to treat the disease before the blindness occurs. If you would like to participate in this citizen science, please fill out our survey to help aid in our research. We greatly appreciate all you are doing for your pets and for contributing to our research!

PSA- those from other countries are allowed to fill out the survey as well.

  1. Vanessa,
My 10 year old female dachshund was diagnosed with Sards 2 months ago. We would like to be involved in research to find the cause for this devastating disease.

  2. Hi Sue – please do fill out our survey – cut and paste this link into your browser. Please share this link widely with your blind dog community – we are hoping for 700-1000 replies (at around 400 now). THANK YOU!

    1. Hi Vanessa

Our beautiful boy, Preston, 13-year-old Lhaso was just diagnosed with SARDS
I noticed your post is two years old, however we would love to be involved in your study. We are eager and will do anything and everything for our boy and our other boys Sherman to help him and adapt to Preston‘s new normal. We are devastated, and doing everything we can at this point.
Please let me know if your research is ongoing and if you have any updates or information. Thank you Alisha
