Best decision I ever made was to remove her blind eye. She was a cuddle bug the first two days. I actually took her on vacation with me on day two after the surgery. She hated the cone and I probably only had it on her three days or so. Sassy was really good about leaving her stitches alone. Within a week, she she was bouncing around again. She…[Read more]

  • Sassy’s remaining eye had a significant pressure spike last Tuesday. She went totally blind but I gave all of the eye drops I had per the Drs. instructions and she regained vision in her eye in about an hour. My doctor is now recommending the Ahmed valve. Has anyone used it? Recommendations? Thoughts?

She looks great! Doc did a great job! How is she doing?

    • Stitches are off. She is doing great. Back to her old crazy self. She was playing with Shuto (our other dog) again for the first time in months. Thank you for the support 🙂

You know this group has helped me come to some sort of place where I have faith that we will be OK no matter what the outcome. That took a while, probably three or four months. I think you will find that you will go from sadness to protective soon. Especially when people who have no idea what this is like voice their opinions. I had some…[Read more]

Bless your heart! Sassy too used Tramadol. She’s a monster though and would pick it out or vomit it up unless I stuffed it in Velveeta. 🙂 I’ll be praying that all goes well over the next two weeks.

  • Hi Gloria! I didn’t realize that you all were in Dallas as well! I too go to Animal Ophthalmology and LOVE them. I see Dr. Munger. He is amazing and I couldn’t be happier with Sassy’s outcome and the kindness and attentiveness of the doctors and staff.

Lara is so pretty! She will look great, you’ll see. I don’t even notice that Sassy only has one eye now. I love her just the way she is. She is my little one eyed monster. I was flying home with her at Christmas and the little girl that was standing in front of us told her mom to look at Sassy because she was winking at her. I like to think of it…[Read more]

Hi! I just wanted to check in on you guys and see how it’s going. I hope the snow let’s up soon. I have a friend in Niles and she is over it. I can’t imagine what you are going through. I had a Shiba before Sassy and put her to sleep at 7. She was incredibly fearful and I could only coax her out from under the bed and her crate to go on walks. She…[Read more]

    • Hi Stefanie – so nice to hear from you. Yes, we got walloped with another 6 inches of snow yesterday. I am SO over this. Sachi had another opthamologist appointment this past Tuesday. Pressures in the good eye and the bad eye were up a little, even since doubling some of the medications. The doctor didn’t schedule the removal of the eye yet…[Read more]

I have a Shiba too! If you go to my profile, you can see my little girl with my mom’s Shiba, Juno. Looks a lot like Sachi. I’m so glad that they caught her glaucoma early. Sassy wasn’t that fortunate. The first ophthalmologist I went to actually recommended that I put Sassy to sleep. I couldn’t do that, but I did seriously consider it. Shibas are…[Read more]

    • Thanks for your reply, Stefanie. It sounds like Sassy is a lot more advanced than Sachi, who would hide under my bed 24/7 if I let her. As happens in some abuse cases, she has retreated into her own world and coaxing her back is a study in infinite patience. But your words sounded so familiar that I had to laugh through the tears…the part…[Read more]

  • I agree with the above. My only regret with Sassy was not removing her eye sooner. I did go with the insert that keeps the skin from sinking into the socket. It’s like a little round black ball and they sew the […]

  • My prayers are certainly with you. Let us know how it goes.

  • Three weeks out and the only thing I may have done differently is having the surgery sooner. I pray that all went well today.

  • Bless your heart! I know it’s devastating, but I can honestly say, it gets better. I don’t know anything about removing the fluid as this wasn’t presented as an option to me, but Sassy is doing great with her eye removal. I did sit down with the vet and go line by line over the costs and we were able to reduce about $400 off of the price they…[Read more]
