Kodie definitely felt better after he was healed. I did take a weeks vacation after his surgery to stay home with him. We mostly cuddled on the couch during his healing. I think Kodie was a little depressed, but remember they sense your feelings. We did walk him around the house on his leash for the first week or two. We stayed as happy and…[Read more]

  • I understand your concern. You will be amazed how good she will do. Our Siberian Husky was diagnosed when he was 3. I was absolutely devastated. You would have thought it was my sons. I cried and cried. That was over 4 years ago. He has now lost both eyes. He is simply amazing. If you saw him from the back, you would not know he was…[Read more]

Our Siberian Husky was only 3 when he was diagnosed with glaucoma. He has now lost both of his eyes. We took him to an eye specialist. They quoted us a lot for the surgery. Our local vet ended up doing the surgery at a much cheaper price. He had the first surgery when he was 4. It was around 300.00. He had his final eye removed at age 6.…[Read more]

  • I totally agree with Paula. Our Siberian Husky was diagnosed with glaucoma. I cried and cried for days and days. We did drops and pills religiously. We set alarm clocks and did the meds exactly on time. Our life resolved around his meds. One eye only hung on for 8 months. We had it removed. The remaining eye hung on for 2 years. He had…[Read more]

I must say I am amazed. Kodie is doing fantastic. His eye removal will be 1 month on Sunday. If you saw him from the back, you would have no idea he didn’t have eyes. He gets around the house just like before. My granddaughter came over to visit. She is almost 3. She loved playing ball with him. I wasn’t sure how that was going to work.…[Read more]

  • Diana is right. Coco will adapt better than you can imagine. I am living proof. Our Kodie was diagnosed with Glaucoma in both eyes 3 years ago. He had his first eye removed 2 years ago. We were able to prolong the eye removal of last eye for 2 years. We woke up one morning and he was blind. When we initially received the diagnosis 3 years…[Read more]

Kodie had a stomach issue last week. He had to stay to the vet a couple days. It broke my heart. His surgery was 3 weeks ago to remove his last eye. His staples were removed a week tomorrow. The vet recommends we still keep his cone on for this week and lead him around with the leash this week. We have been letting him walk around some…[Read more]

    • Could it be his stomach issue causing him to lay around? Otherwise, I think the issue is more that he has been wearing the cone and you have been leading him around for some time, so he hasn’t had a chance to just learn things out for himself. Now that you are starting to let him be without the cone and the leash a bit he is starting to find his…[Read more]

  • I feel your heartache. My 6 year old Siberian husky had his last eye removed about 3 weeks ago. Then last week he had a very upset stomach. The vet had to keep him a couple more days. His stomach issue seems to be better. But, my heart is breaking. He just lays around with no energy. When we get him up to go potty he doesn’t seem to have a…[Read more]

Kodie has some drainage coming from his nose still. Sometimes it looks like pure blood. It isn’t a lot. Maybe once or twice a day I find a drip on the floor. His nose is sometimes wet. When I rub it with a paper towel it isn’t pure blood. We called the Vet on Monday. They didn’t seem to concerned at that point. Just said to keep watching…[Read more]

    • I seem to remember that happening with Lucy. I know you will be keeping a close eye on him Debbie so like the vet says, if things get worse let them know.

Kodie has been up more the last few days. I spent the day with him yesterday and made him go for several walks. The Vet is still requiring we keep the leash on him at all times and guide him through the house. He said at this point if he bumped into something it would still bust open. He gets his staples out next Wednesday. I am so ready for…[Read more]

    • That’s so good to hear Debbie. I’m glad he is moving around a bit more now. I know how good it felt when Lucy’s stitches came out. By that time she was already getting back to normal and I was already feeling okay with it all as well.

I am so sorry Cathy. It is devastating to hear the news. I remember it well. My first instinct was that we would have to put our sweet Kodie down when he went blind. Thank heavens I found this support group and like you learned a lot from all these wonderful people. That was 3 years ago that we heard the news. I cried for weeks. Our Kodie…[Read more]

Kodie is just laying around, sleeping we think. Without eyes we can’t tell. We are trying to get him up for a walk. He isn’t very interested. Is this normal at this point? I can’t remember having as much trouble with the first eye removal. He is on Rimadyl. Didn’t see on side effects that it would make him sleepy.

    • How is Kodie going Debbie? It’s been 2 days since you posted this. Hope he is improving.

Kodie has his remaining eye removed Thursday. We picked him up from the vet this afternoon. Now for him to heal. He was whining as they were bringing him out. As soon as he heard my voice he calmed down. He has slept all afternoon. But doesn’t seem to be in pain. He gets his staples out on the 19th. I will be glad when they are out. I…[Read more]

Thanks for the much needed words of support and encouragement. I am so thankful I have you. You got me through the first eye removal and you are going to help me get through the second. Bless you sweet friend. I can’t imagine going through this 3 year process without you and the others that have helped me through.

Kodie is having his remaining eye removed today. His pressure yesterday was still in the 40’s. We have been putting drops in his eye every couple hours. Pressure is still in the 40’s. We made the decision yesterday to have the eye removed today. He woke up today in a lot of pain. I know we made the right decision. I am not looking forward…[Read more]

Kodie is blind again today. Crazy how his sight is coming and going. Have to do what is best for him and I think eye removal as soon as possible is best. Plan to talk to vet tomorrow and probably schedule it. Breaking my heart, but I know he will be fine. I dread so much the surgery and recovery. I pray he makes out better this time. And I…[Read more]

Hi everyone! Most of you don’t know me. I haven’t been on much lately. Life has been busy. My Siberian Husky was diagnosed with glaucoma 3 years ago. He had his left eye removed 2 years ago. I was living in fantasy land that his remaining eye would last his lifetime. WRONG! We got up Thursday morning and he was blind. Off to the ER we go.…[Read more]

    • I know exactly what you are going through Debbie. The same thing happened to Lucy. She lost the first eye and then 6 months later we woke up one morning and she was blind in the other eye. With glaucoma it rarely happens gradually, so it’s always a shock.

It’s an awful feeling I know. But you were lucky in some ways that his second eye lasted as…[Read more]

  • We had difficulty with our Husky at first. We kept encouraging him with a treat. He finally let us put the drop in. That has been almost 3 years ago. We still give him a treat after his drop. But, all we have to say is “drop time”. He jumps up on the couch and lays his head back. It is amazing. But, believe me we struggled just like you…[Read more]

Kodie’s pressure in his remaining eye is elevated some. It was 19 last week and a month ago. Not extremely high, but since it has been higher than in the best our Vet is a little concerned. We are taking him back to the Eye Specialist on Saturday. The Vet thinks maybe he should start taking more medicine. I am very nervous. I was deep down…[Read more]

    • Hi Debbie!, My Bella just lost the sight in her remaining eye 3 weeks ago, and I have got to tell you I would not have worried so much if I had known just how well she would cope!!!……we still go on bike rides, go to the beach, go to the dog park, in fact we do everything just the same as before she went blind, they truely are amazing, and we…[Read more]
