Hello Lani, he is very cute, How long has your dog been blind, my is only around 5 weeks, and it was hard at first I have to admit that he adjusted faster than I did, but we are both working together now, he is a good dog and I hate that it happened to him but all I can do is help him adjust better. He is now going for longer walks and his nose…[Read more]

    • Dogs are amazing. I feel like if we can use them as an example and be more adaptable we’d all be better people. Louie has been with me since he was 7 weeks old and he is now 6 years old. He began going blind by about six months old and has had no sight since he was about 3 years old. We’ve been through a lot together and I’ve learned so much from…[Read more]

Oh I am sorry, poor baby and poor Paula. I know they are our kids.

Paula I am glad that I found you and the other owners. It helps to talk with people in the same boat. Is like group therapy.

yeah we are adjusting and he is no longer wearing the cone, He doing good, only I notice when it rains his sense of smell gets confused, I have tried to get him to play but he won’t, I wander if he had other dog friends around I have not finish working on the yard but I will and then he will have a few neighbor’s dogs over.

    • My dog doesn’t play much either anymore. Although I have to admit she never did play much anyway so there hasn’t been too much of a difference. However, both of our dogs are still in the early stages of being blind so it might still take a while.

  • Hello everyone, today Rojito was a little more confused but that is part for the cause. I am trying not make him fill incapable of anything. The only thing I pay attention to is when he is trying to jump in the couch, although he is getting at it, sometimes he is in the wrong spot either too far or by arm of the couch. I tell him you are too far,…[Read more]

    • Wow, I can’t believe it has only been a month. Isn’t it amazing how quickly things work out. Both you and Rojito have adjusted really well. There are always going to be some hiccups along the way but what a difference in such a short time.

Don’t give up I could not give up on my baby, because that is what he is to me. My kids are grown up and with their own life and he is my baby. I look as his eyes and I see they are not what they use to be but he is still the same dog, we need to help them adjust, I was were you are now, and felt the frustration hand in there. One of the things I…[Read more]

  • Just to report that Rojito went on a 21/2 block walk and he did great. He is adjusting and so am I, he still gets turn around in the house but, he follows directions really well. Up and down have become easier for him to follow. Climbs on the couch and on my lap with no problem, He comes running to the door when I get home from work, and yesterday…[Read more]

    • That is wonderful. I feel very encouraged after reading your post. Kodie goes tonight for a glaucoma pressure check. But, his left eye has been looking horrible the last couple days. I am really wondering if we shouldn’t go ahead and have the left eye removed and then focus on keeping the right eye as long as possible. It is getting so…[Read more]

      • I know what you are going through Debbie. It’s so hard to see them like this. I spent two days totally stressed when my dog had her last pressure spike. I could tell she was in a lot of pain and it was 2 days before we could get to see the vet. That wasn’t the best of times. Let us know how the vet visit went.

  • Update today I had company and Rojito did great, he was friendly and playful, Everyone was nice to him and he loves company, he is a social butterfly. He also likes to ride in the car. He is a fantastic little dog and I am very proud of him.

yes he has adjusted a lot better and faster than me. I feel better to see him getting around but the cataracts cover his beautiful brown eyes, I am the only one upset about that, he does not think of that of course.

    • Ada, it sounds like he is adjusting wonderfully. I am so happy for you. How long has you dog been blind? All of this is still so scary. Was just curious how long it has taken him to get to this point.

Well I am going to try this weekend because it is a long weekend and I am off, I may try to do it and see if he does not scratch his eyes, So when I am in the same room with him and see how he handles it. He had scratch his cornia that is why the doctor put it on him. Today I let him lead when we walk and he is getting better but long walks do not…[Read more]

I thought it was a beautiful story to share

  • A heartwarming story about dogs. Lily is a Great Dane blinded by a bizarre medical condition that required she have both eyes removed. Madison, another Great Dane, has been her sight. The two are inseparable.
