  • Hi Jen

Just saw your post. I have a Minature Schnauzer that went blind at 13. She developed Glaucoma and cateracts. Because of her age they didn’t want to remove her eyes and the drops weren’t doing much. Fortunately her own body started taking care of them and they have shrunk causing the pressure to go away. I treat her 2x a day with drops…[Read more]

    Hi Janine

I have always bathed my dog in a laundry sink so she was use to it. I am still doing it after she has gone blind but I always leave her collar on so I can hold onto her. I talk to her a lot and that seems to help. She still moves her head around a lot not knowing what is going on. If your dog is bigger, I probably would do it in…[Read more]

@chocosmom First off, that’s wonderful that you adopted a blind dog. It is work but well worth the love they give. You probably ready my little schnauzer went blind a few months ago and she is 13 but otherwise in good health. They do surprisingly adapt very well.

Here are a couple things I have figured out that might help. Get him a harness,…[Read more]

I hope your baby Cadi is doing better. It’s so sad to see them when they don’t feel good. My dog developed glaucoma rather quickly and went blind in both eyes. She was uncomfortable too but the vet made her feel better. She is 13 so he didn’t want to put her through the surgery. Fortunately her eyes started shrinking and the pressure went way…[Read more]

  • I just saw your post on Stella. I am so sorry for Stella loss of her eyes. I am sure it is very traumatic for you too. My dog went blind suddenly from glaucoma and it has been a real adjustment. Very true what Paula said. It is amazing how they adjust to being blind. Talk to her just like normal. She will find her way because she will…[Read more]

My dog is a Minature Schnauzer that went blind about 4 months ago. She too get separation anxiety but not quite as bad as your Sameen. She gets very nervous in the car not knowing where she is going even with me holding her. I had read about the Thunder Shirt and thought I would give it a try. They aren’t cheap as they cost about $39,00. I…[Read more]

My Minature Schnauzer went blind about 4 months ago from Glaucoma and cateracts. We had to really work with the optomologist to get the pressure down. Fortunately we finally did and now her eyes are just shrinking so we didn’t have to do any surgery. She is 13 and otherwise in good health. It took a while for me to get her to walk her old…[Read more]

  • Hi Joyce

Jenny has some great advice for you. I too have a Minature Schnauzer that is 13 who went blind almost 4 months ago. She developed cataracts and glaucoma in both eyes. Her body is taking care of it after we got the pressure down and they are just shrinking so she will keep her eyes. We always took her for walks around a park and she…[Read more]

Wow your story sounds so much like mine. I too have a 13 year old Minature Schnauzer. She went totally blind in June almost over night too with cataracts and glaucoma. We have been battling the pressure with drops and are see an opthomologist for the past two months. Pressure started going way down and now it’s back up. I am taking her in…[Read more]

  • Hi Kirsty

I have an older 13 year old Minature Schnauzer who went blind about a month ago. She is still adapting and we are trying to help her. She too runs into things but I certainly would not consider putting her down just because she bumps into things. I realize you are remodeling but just try to make her use to her surroundings again.…[Read more]

  • Hi Paula

Thank you for the response to my request. At this point Callie’s pressure has been staying down with only one pressure drop a day. One eye is 7 and the other 9. The doctor can see her eyes shrinking too. He said he doesn’t think the injections will be necessary. Her own body is taking care of her eyes. She has had inflammation…[Read more]

  • I know this is an old post but I was wondering what you ended up doing with Chase for his eyes. I have a miniature schnauzer who is 13 and has cataracts and glaucoma in both eyes. We have gone to a specialist and he had suggested the injections too if she didn’t get relief. Because of her age and a heart murmur he didn’t want to chance surgery…[Read more]

I have a question for anyone on the forum. I have a Minature Schnauzer who just went blind about a month ago. I want to see what people suggest for a color or harness. She has a collar and I got her a nice harness but when I put it on her she just stands there and won’t move. When she could still see I used one of those strap harness and she…[Read more]

Oh please let us know how Marla is doing. I do hope she did fine with the surgery. My Minature Schnauzer Is blind and is 13 years old but he doesn’t want to remove her eyes because of any underlying medical issues. She seems to be doing OK with the eye drops and her pressure is way down. The opthomologist seems to think her own body is taking…[Read more]

  • I am a member of Blind Dog Support. I have a Minature Schnauzer that was diagnosed with glaucoma just 2 weeks ago and is blind. She is reacting to the pressure drops and her pressure is dropping and my opthomogist believes that her body is actually killing her eyes so hopefully we don’t have to do the injections. She is 13 and he doesn’t want…[Read more]
